But instead, they are faithful. Committed. They let their wife and children "bore" holes into their hearts ~ always willing to serve, seeking the Lord above all else. He maybe didn't get down on one knee to propose, with flowers and a video camera rolling behind the trees, but when he says, "Marry me?" you know that you are the one, the only one, he thinks of. And when he says "I do", he means it. For Life.
As does she. She means it: and she supports him, affirms him.
I just saw on the news "America's Longest Married Couple". They're 102 and 98 (got married at 17 and 21), still together, still going strong, after 81 years. 81 "boring years", ~ years of boring into each other's hearts ~ as Ann Voscamp would say.
Could I dare to hope that I will be that blessed? If God has marriage in my future, could I possibly receive the gift of 81 or more years with one man? It's highly impossible... I mean, people sometimes die before they've even lived 81 years. But maybe, just maybe, God is using this couple to show the world: it CAN last. It SHOULD last. Don't give up.
Listen ~ "Boring" beat's today's "Romantic" hands-down. Because it's forever.
