The Soares took me to Porta de Galinhas ("galinha" is "chiken" in Portguese... but it's not a huge chicken or anything, it's a Gorgeous Beach!!! We had an amazing time! Saturday, it was rainy and cloudy, so a more "chilly" day at the beach, but still fun. Jessica and I then took to praying for the weather on Sunday.... and guess what? It was GORGEOUS! Bright sunshine, yellow warmth! God does answer prayer ~ even about weather! It is awesome to stand, let the waves crash over you and then just relax and let the ocean toss and turn you in all directions. The wave would come, knock me under, and then a second wave would come and I'd flip and flop with arms and legs going everywhere... feeling so part of the alive, bubbling waters! The ocean was blue-green, the color of a precious stone. We walked out to the reefs, where there were pools full of fish and little black sponge things hidden in the holes of the reefs. As I looked out on the expansive waters of the Atlantic (or is it Pacific on this side of South America...?), I thought of all of the pictures of "paradise" like this one I had seen. All of the vacation and marketing ploys and advertisements. They all promise amazing times and satisfaction. But really... if you aren't satisfied where you live, you won't be satisfied living in "paradise." I Love the beauty and fun of the beach, of course! But did it add to my life's satisfaction to be there? .... no. Only Jesus can do that! =) All recovered from my "virus", Praise the Lord! I "finished recovering" today, and got most of a really thick book read (which was nice!). Earlier this evening we did our Bible reading and hymn-singing! Lol some of those old hymns are hard... you should have heard us singing along to the youtube music! ;) Now, I am watching a movie with Stephanie, Timothy, and Jessica! Tomorrow, the plan is to head to Porto de Galinhas, one of the prettiest beaches in Brasil! I am excited, as I haven't actually swam at a beach since I was 3 or 4 ... and I was scared of the waves. SO. Tomorrow should be amazing! ;)
As the time for going home comes closer, I cannot believe how fast my time in Brasil has flown. Wow. I know I will be ready to come home, 3 months is good. But, oh... how I will miss Brasil. More the people than the country... it's the same grass, the same sky, the same rocks and dirt. The people is what makes it unique and special. And I love the people! :) Lol so, No School for Me Today. I'm sick! :P I'm going to say it's a Tropical Virus, because they think it's a virus, and I'm in a tropical country, SO....! (It sounds better ~ more dramatic, right?)
I'm just achy, and my body can't decide if I'm hot or cold! :) That means I'm not at the school, which means I am at home. If you saw my video from yesterday, you'll have a better idea what going on at home. Day Two of painting ~ very entertaining lol. Between Portuguese praise music, the guys cooking lunch, a small wrestling match, and them getting a lot of work done, I What happens when you get 6 teenage guys together to paint the house??... they sing "Baby, Baby" and "Call Me Maybe". Unfortunately, they caught me with the camera... and told me if I posted it, they would take me to court and proc
The video above is of Rachel and Pastor Flavio ~ two amazing missionaries here in Brasil!
Yesterday I went to English Service! Portuguese church is good, but it was a blessing to hear preaching and worship in my own language! :-) English Service is an outreach. People come to an English worship service and preaching, and then have English classes afterwards. They want to learn English, and are hearing the gospel every week! =) Please pray for their salvation... there are all types who come. Adults, kids, teenagers, Christians, Catholics, Mormons. Everyone. We've had chuva all night and day here! Everything is wet. I just finished eating an orange... and get this, it's GREEN. Yep, the oranges are green. Don't ask me why ;) I skyped with my fam today ~ Wyatt informed me that it was 19 days until I returned! Abigail is on crutches after a fall and a visit to the ER (that visit is memorable, as she had her face painted as a dolphin and my dad was a pirate... I wish I could've seen the doctor's faces! ;) Mommy and the kids are chugging away at school... I wonder, will my siblings be jealous when I get back and don't have to do school? haha ;) (below) A picture of Rachel and I! I have been told many times that I am just like her! (Which I take as a HIGH compliment! ;) I forget if we were celebrating the fruit salad, or winning the game... either way, fun picture! (below) Eric, one of the little boys in my class, and I playing in the 'house'! :) If you wouldn't mind praying for me for energy tomorrow, that'd be great! It's Monday (the hardest day of the week, right? ;)), and my morning will start at about 5:50am! ;)
Did you know Jesus Loves Me has three verses??? .... I didn't, either! We all know the first verse, so here is the 2nd and 3rd: "Jesus loves me/Him Who died/Heavens gate to open wide/He will wash away my sin/Let His little child come in."
"Jesus loves me/He will stay/Close beside me all the way/He's prepared a home for me/And someday His face I'll see." Ephesians 5:2, "...Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us..." We've sang a few hymns while being here with the Soares, and I realized how amazing the lyrics are. They aren't like modern worship music. They are unique, full of Scripture and truth, and comforting. They tell of the promises in God's Word. They are powerful in their simplicity. ... why don't we sing Hymns anymore, alongside modern worship songs? Time has flown by. I can't believe the summer is over in Indiana... and Spring is here in Brasil! I have three weeks left here... three weeks. Being here feels like just a part of my life. A part of me. I don't know if I'll ever come back, but I will Never forget my time or the people here. Today was the Father's Day celebration at the school, so the kids did a little program in the morning, then had a Father's Day brunch, and then the Dad's played soccer. Goodness! Brasilians are INTO their soccer! ;) I had a fun afternoon at the pool with Jessica! |
